Daizen is originally from China, although he spent most of his teen-to-adult time in the mongolian desert, where he acquired a special fast-running technique that can only be applied on dusty and sandy terrain, as well as snow. His steel plated boots are a part of his training for that very ability and if he would stop wearing them for a longer period, he would lose the fast-running ability. Also he has to take off the boots to actually run faster.

His second ability, if it may be called so, is the "mirage vision". After being left tied to a pole in the middle of the desert, he starved and dehydrated for 3 days, after which he started getting hallucinations, which sometimes give him a depiction of the spirit world. In other words, while walking near a sacred Shinto shrine, he would notice small spirit-like creatures (kami's), which also applies on other religions (Taoism, Christianity, Buddhism etc). His mirage vision is often intertwined with random hallucinations, as well as his spirit guide which appears to him in near-death moments and gives him crucial, if cryptic advice how to solve his crisis. the spirit guide is in the form of a short old man with a white beard holding a cane (think Genryuusai Shigekuni, Division 1 captain from Bleach)

His fighting style involves using his blade to attack, and his chain to snare or provide protection and useful for long -mid range combat. Most of his defenses involve the use of the chain and boots to deflect blows. He often uses a stance where he holds the blade in one hand and chain in the other. He is an agility type fighter.

For his personality, I'd have to say that he has a pretty much short temper, and chaotic behavior: at his best, he'll be kind, generous, honorable free spirited, and at his worst he'll be merciless and seldom even sadistic in nature, mostly if his life is about to be extinguished or something dear to him is in danger. Generally he stops acting in such a way if someone just "snaps him out of it". His favorite food are hot dogs, which he holds sacred, and he loves to add a lot of mustard to them. Also he is easily irritated by children. He never fights seriously against anyone younger than him (25).
